HUNTINGTON – Junior college transfer Dani Koljanin has officially joined the Thundering Herd for the 2017-18 season, head coach Dan D’Antoni announced on Tuesday, April 18. Koljanin, a native of Pula, Croatia, joins the Herd from Monroe College in New Rochelle, New York, will be eligible immediately and have two years remaining to play for the Herd.
“Koljanin closes out with what I believe is our best class since I’ve arrived on campus,” D’Antoni said. “People need to remember last year was what I considered year two for a five-year plan on building our program. We are excited with what Dani brings and we believe he is a great addition. The future is bright for Marshall basketball.”
The Croatian led the team with 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game over 29.3 minutes. He scored 19 or more in eight of the Mustangs’ 35 games, with a season-high of 29 against Baltimore City CC on Dec. 11. He also led the team in 3-pointers made and attempted. Koljanin collected six double-doubles on the season and helped lead the Mustangs to a 24-11 record and a spot in the NJCAA national tournament.
Koljanin joins the 2017-18 recruiting class along 6-10 center Iran Bennett and 6-8 forward Tanner Robinette, both coached by former Herd point guard AW Hamilton at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia, 6-7 guard Darius George from Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton, Va., and 5-10 Jarrod West from Clarksburg (W.Va.) Notre Dame HS, the son of former West Virginia University standout Jarrod West, Sr.
