Dixon no-hits WKU in Herd Softball’s opening win, 2-0, at C-USA Tourney

Herd senior pitcher Jordan Dixon, the Conference USA Pitcher of the Year, throws a no-hitter in seven innings against WKU and Marshall wins 2-0 in the opening game of the C-USA Tournament. Morgan Zerkle, the C-USA Player of the Year in the league, homered and scored an unearned run on a dropped out in the WKU outfield.

Marshall will move on in the double-elimination portion of the tournament on Friday. Saturday’s championship game is a winner takes the title game and is for the NCAA bid from C-USA.

Elizabeth DeShields, who made the all-Freshman team, also doubled in the contest as did Ali Burdette.

Marshall out-hit the ‘Toppers 6-to-0. It is the first no-hitter in the C-USA Championships since WKU shut out and no-hit Charlotte in the 2015 tournament. Dixon’s is only the second no-hitter in tournament history.
